Taijiquan Basic Education (summary)

In recent years taijiquan slowly finds its way in all areas of our Western culture, and slowly but surely, it becomes an ‘accepted’ profession. Our college recognizes this and we wish to contribute to this process. However, to meet the Western standards, we also realize that sound education is needed. For this reason we offer a higher vocational program, aiming to realize the following objectives:

The Taijiquan Basic Education is our first step in realizing this endeavor.

Of old there are five traditional styles of taijiquan. In our college we practice the so-called Wu style according to late master Ma Jiangbao (a direct descendant of the Wu family). Master Ma used to say that every self-respecting discipline has its own theory and practice, and this is also true for taijiquan. Traditionally taijiquan was passed-on from master to apprentice, and behind closed doors. However, since then, taijiquan has flown far beyond the borders of China and the cultural settings have changed dramatically. As a consequence, we have developed a unique program that meets the needs of modern-day society. Although we still practice and transmit the profound teachings of master Ma, to meet our academic aspirations, we have gone to great length to substantiate his practical teachings from verifiable written sources.

The Taijiquan Basic Education provides a study program of the fundamentals of taijiquan, and functions as a stepping stone to become a fully certified teacher in line with one of the major families that transmitted taijiquan.

Our college offers two possibilities.

The first option is the regular Taijiquan Basic Education. In this course you will receive instruction in both theory and practice.

The second option is the Taijiquan Basic Education Intense. This course only offers the theory behind taijiquan. Because of the style non-specific nature of this course, it is intended for practitioners who already mastered the Wu style. It is also open for people who have been trained in one of the other style variants and want to further their theoretical knowledge.
